Didier Bouillard racing “La Solitaire du Figaro” under SunGard Colors

For the 4th consecutive year, Didier Bouillard, Executive Vice President, SunGard Global Trading, will be racing La Solitaire du Figaro this summer, and for the first time this will be done under the SunGard flag.

Didier is very passionate about sailing: “I am really excited about participating in the race this year again and pleased to be sporting the SunGard colors for the first time. Sailing has been a passion for over 10 years. What is great in racing is that it makes you discover beautiful places, seas, coast lines etc. while competing. Although a single-handed competition there is a strong team spirit among race participants: you race solo but you are never alone!”

The Solitaire du Figaro is a fantastic single-handed offshore race between France, Spain and Ireland. 50 skippers usually participate in the event sailing the same yacht, called the Figaro Beneteau. This is a One Design Boat meaning that all the skippers benefit from a similar yacht, minimizing the technical differences and maximizing the skipper’s performance. La Solitaire has established itself over the years (41th edition in 2010) as a reference in offshore racing and attracts professional skippers from all over the world. Many participants of “Le Vendee Globe” are very keen to race La Solitaire, a nice quick way to practice solo sailing.

La Solitaire 2010 consists of 4 legs of 350 to 485 miles. Between each leg there is a break of a couple of days to give sailors a good rest, some time to make any repairs and prepare the boat for the next leg.  The race starts from Le Havre (Normandy, Fr) on July 27^th and continues to Gijon (Sp). We then sail to Brest (Brittany, Fr), Kinsale (Ir) and Cherbourg (Fr).
