So having spent three of the last four weeks in Shanghai, it was time for me to move on over the weekend. Following a 4 ½ hour flight, my flight touched down at Singapore’s Changi Airport Terminal 2, and at 7pm as the plane coasted to a halt the captain proudly announced the outside temperature was 86 degrees. It is currently the rainy season here in Shanghai and as I left my hotel bound for the office this morning, it got me thinking of home. No, I was not thinking of the weather in the UK but the comparison of the Western economies to those in the East. As the Western economies continue to struggle to pull themselves out of the storm of post-crisis blues and the cyclone - the European sovereign debt situation - howling through the European Union, the weather in South East Asia looks rather rosy.... read more

Since the financial world reeled in shock at that collapse of Lehman Brothers and the subsequent fallout in the world’s financial markets, the banking community has been in a mode of self preservation. Rather than lending, which generates one of the age-old assets of the banking world, banks have sought ways to preserve and protect their capital. I work with a great bunch of folks here at SunGard and every Monday morning, without fail, we congregate around the coffee machine and catch-up on our weekend activities.
